A Weekend of Fun Relaxation

Let me tell you about my weekend…

Friday after work, I got my hair cut off.  it was about a quarter way down my back and now, it dries to the top of my neck.  I got it cut at the bottom of my neck, but my hair is curly… it bounces up.  After that, I dyed the first of three yarns for the Quicksilver shawl by Melanie Berg.  I also finished my Vanilla Fog hat by Andrea Mowry that night.

Saturday. my daughter and I had a little girls day out.  We went to Target and Buffalo Wild Wings.  It was fun.  Then I came home to dye the rest of my yarn for my shawl.  The Yarn Tree was in full bloom yesterday.  I’m very happy with how my yarns turned out.

Then, on Saturday, I knitted my first swatch for my TKGA course I’m taking.  I’m very happy with how that came out also.

Today, not as productive.  I got about 12 rows into the next swatch, stopped and counted my stitches, and I was one stitch too many.  Ugh, I don’t know where I went wrong, but I just ripped it out.  Starting over is not a big deal, but I want to finish that swatch today.  It is almost 3pm, so I need to get started.

Tonight we are going to watch Rogue One.  We didn’t see it in theaters this time.  It doesn’t resemble the classic Star Wars movie plot in my opinion, but I hope it’s good.

Tomorrow, work.  It will be the crazy busy week of work out of the month.  I’m nervous.  I’ve been at this job for 2 months and I still feel like I haven’t grasped everything yet.  Can I just stay home and knit for a living?

Next up…

Next up on my needles will be Quicksilver by Melanie Berg.  Im going to dye up some yarn to knit it.  I need to figure out what colors I want to use.  I’m almost finished with the Vanilla Fog by Andrea Mowry.   It’s turning out great,  love it.  And the yarn is super soft.  It’s a MCN base by Artistic Lilly.

Next hobby I’m going to tackle is cooking.  I want to become a foodie/cook.  I don’t want to cook my way through the Julia Child cookbook or anything,  just broaden my horizons on what I can choose from. Plus,  cooking is relaxing, especially with a glass of wine.  I haven’t had a glass of wine in months.  And it will give me something else to talk about in my blog.

Does anyone use Snapchat? I have like 3 friends on Snapchat. That does not validate my want to purchase those sunglasses that sync and record to Snapchat though. I need more friends!

May is quickly sneaking up on me.  I’m getting scared about the 5 hour drive to Orlando.  I hope my daughter can keep me awake and alert. Driving is not my thing,  but Disney is definitely my thing.  I love Disney. I want to hug Mickey!!

So,  if you have any great cooking ideas, please share.  I’d love to learn.

What’s new…

Nothing.

I got about 2.5″ further into my hat.  I’d like to finish it by the end of the weekend.   Next,  I’m going to start the swatches for my TKGA course.   But, I’d like to start a shawl or a sweater.   Something a little more challenging than a hat.

I need to start cooking again.   I only cook on the weekend mainly.   I was cooking a meal from a different country every weekend.  A theme night kinda.  But, there are only so many ingredients you can find in a small town grocery store.  It got complicated,  and expensive.

My daughter got her glasses today. She’s so excited and can see a lot better.   I’m happy for her.  Now I need to get some glasses.   That will have to wait until after Disney in May.

Disney in May! Yay!

Goals

Since becoming a member of The Knitting Guild Association (yesterday), I’m obsessing with making lists, researching the website,  checking out the Ravelry Group, and thinking about what courses I’m going to take.

I have made a list of courses that I’m going to take and the deadline I’m giving myself for each course. According to my timeline, I’ll be a Master Knitter in 2023, hopefully.

There is a good chance that I’ll just give up,  but I have high hopes right now.

I want to finish my Vanilla Fog hat before I start the homework for TKGA.  I had to order some sport weight yarn for class,  so I have time since I have to wait on that to come in. I’m 3″ into Vanilla Fog.  Very happy with it,  even though it’s not perfect.

I got a load of undyed yarn in yesterday.  I’m really excited to get home and start a batch.  I’m thinking about the colors I will use tonight,  but I’m at a loss right now.   What are good color combinations?
I took my daughter to the eye doctor for the first time yesterday.  Turns out, she is nearsighted.   She picked out a pair of Guess frames and they look great on her.   They have somewhat thick black frames.  I’m happy for her.  She said she could really see better when the doctor found the right perscription. Now to wait on the lenses to be made.

For now,  that is about it.

Fruit Salad, The Knitter’s Guild & Fajitas

Tomorrow, at my office,  starts the week of recognition for a certain department. I have a cubicle in this department, but I’m not a part of that department. They were nice enough to include me on the breakfast they’re having tomorrow.  But, I have to bring something.  I was volunteered to bring fruit salad.  Not cheap.  I got grapes, strawberries, melon, and pineapple.  It was all pre-chopped, so less work for me.  My hands smell like fruit, sniff sniff, so good!

I’ve been knitting a majority of the day.  I ripped my Vanilla Fog hat out once more.  Andrea Mowry got in touch with me about the pattern question I had. It still didn’t make sense,  so I altered it to make sense to me.  I finally got the hang of the brioche knitting in the round,  and I’m about 1.5 inches into the hat. Fun!

I’m going to sign up for the Knitters Guild this summer.  It’s basically a school for knitters to test your skills, I think.  I want to be a master knitter.   I know,  I cannot even get brioche in the round to work, I have a ways to go before I could be a master. The idea of having knitting homework just seems fun.  So, yea.

I’m dyeing some yarn right now.  Water is heating up in my 20 quart pot.  I don’t think I needed a pot that big, but for some reason,  I got it.  It would be awesome for crab legs though.  Too bad it is contaminated with acid dyes now.

Per the request of my daughter,  I’m going to use pink and aqua dyes for this yarn. It’s going to be called Jigglypuff.  She loves Pokemon.  But, it will not be available in my store. I’m just testing the color combination for now.  Plus,  it’s on 100% Peruvian Highland Wool.  Not soft,  at all.  I’d feel awful if someone bought that base.  I’m waiting on my yarn order to come in,  and this scratchy yarn is the only thing I had left to dye.

I’ve got my secret dry rub marinating on chicken now.   Going to fire up the grill around 5:00 and cook my favorite meal, fajitas!!  Spanish rice,  refried beans, peppers, onions, and cheese will be in the mix as well.  Not to toot my own horn,  but my fajitas are better than any fajitas I’ve ever had. Nom!

I guess that’s all for now.  I’m going to go dye my yarn,  get back to knitting,  and start cooking soon.

Brioche, purls, and ripping

Vanilla Fog by Andrea Mowry is a brioche knitted hat. I’m new to brioche in the round.  Needless to say, I’ve ripped it a few times now.  However, I swear there is a hiccup in the pattern.  Therefore,  I am on hold to start again until the designer emails me back.  It’s probably me,  but I just need clarification.

People hate the purl stitch. Why? Maybe I just knit differently than the average bear, but purl stitches do not bother me.

My daughter and I went on a road trip today about 2 hours away.  We ended up seeing Beauty and the Beast, having lunch,  doing a little shopping,  then getting back home by 5:30. It was a fun day.

I really want to concentrate on knitting tomorrow.  I’ve been physically and mentally exhausted over the past week and I haven’t knitted a single stitch until today.

Sunday’s are both good and bad.  Good because it’s a day off work.  Bad because all you can think of is how you don’t want to go to work.   Well,  that’s me at least.  Saturday is really the only day off that is worry free in my opinion.

When I get bored at night,  I go to bed.  My husband and daughter are normally consumed into some video game by this time of night,  so I don’t feel guilty about crashing.  It is 8:45 though.  I’m 34 years old.  This just isn’t natural.   I need to find more to do so I don’t get bored and get tired.

But for now,  I’m bored and tired.
